Those people who held the flag upside down were pretty gutsy if they were doing it on purpose. That was bound to get a rise out of somebody. Those who oppose the resolution need to be careful about their attitudes and actions. They are in a precarious position and should try as hard as they can not to unnecessarily alienate anybody. The more I blog, the harder it is for me to tell where I fall on this issue. 

Now, this isn’t a concert and nobody is drunk (that I know of), but the sheer number of people in attendance has turned going to the bathroom into a logistical nightmare.
Being a man, I can only tell you about the men’s room, but I can tell you that it reminds me of a concert. A line of men stands outside, and you think they are just hanging around. But then you open the door and see the logjam of people waiting to use the facilities.
The McCoart building was not meant to accommodate the number of people we have here today.
I know, I know, you don’t want to hear about the bathroom. But I tried to make this post family safe. And it does give you an idea of the overwhelming number of people here. 

Of course, at this point, it’s probably hard for the supervisors to even process anything that is being said, but Pandak did have some comments that stuck out for me.
She pointed out that the staff report about this resolution stated that the county can only restrict a very few services. The resolution will not do anything about overcrowding in schools or hospitals, both issues that are heavily discussed with the topic of illegal immigration.
Of course, the supervisors couldn’t do anything about that because legally they can’t. But rather than restricting these services, perhaps they could have worked on an alternative way to approach that problem. I’m just opining. I don’t know what that alternative approach would look like.
Pandak also pointed out that it’s a shame that the supervisors didn’t try to work with the local Chambers of Commerce to find ways to make businesses accountable if they hire illegal immigrants as employees.

I do think that if the county had really wanted to do something about this problem, they would have tried to look at it in a much more thorough way. But perhaps this resolution is just a first step to see if something can be done. Perhaps, once this wedge is put in the door, the supervisors will come back later and try to bring more closure to this issue.     

The women that is dressed as the Statue of Liberty was just called to the podium. She began to talk but was cut off by Stewart before she could get started. He asked her name and where she is from. She said she is the Statue of Liberty and she is from Staten Island. Stewart didn’t seem to find that amusing. She ended up giving her real name, but because she isn’t from Prince William County, she had to sit down until all Prince William County residents were heard.
So, that’s right folks! You heard it here first! The Statue of Liberty tried to speak and was silenced by the Board of County Supervisors. I’m just kidding. She’ll still be able to speak. But she might not be holding her torch quite as high a few hours from now.     

She said that sometimes she goes to pick up children and she finds out that they have left, ostensibly because of this resolution. She spoke of this situation with a great deal of emotion and sadness.  If the resolution is driving out legal Hispanics, then that is a tragic consequence. But if it is driving out illegal immigrants, then isn’t that precisely what the Board of County Supervisors is trying to do? That speaker might have swayed the supervisors, but I’m not sure if she swayed them in her direction.
